ESU ECoS Firmware V4.0 beta is released

The ESU announced the new firmware for the ECoS series (CS Reloaded, ECoS 1 and ECoS 2), the Version 4.0.0 public beta.

It is important to note that this public beta is not the official firmware yet and prone to potential bugs. So backup all setting and files before hitting the road. Now, lets see what are the new features inside the package. 

Platform
1) A Linux new kernel with updated drivers and better performance
2) New and faster boot loader
3) New file system with a new partitioning of the internal disks. Much faster boot times and responsiveness of the system.

Functionality

1) Faster GUI.
2) Faster boot time.
3) Supports 28 functions per DCC Lok.
4) Web broswer interface: Builtin VNC server and VNC client Java on web interface, accessible from PC, tablet and smartphone.
5) Web broswer interface: On the VNC client, the Stop / Go buttons are implemented.
6) Web browser interface: Progress bar showing the update status
7) Supports 10 network connections simultaneously, smartphones or tablets could be used as control devices.
8) New Menu showing the status of ECoSLink devices and other network connection
9) Switch commands are placed in queue when ECoS in stop mode. The commands would be activated once Go button is on.
7) Switching delay is lengthened to 30 seconds at maximum.
8) Go button is temporaily locked up for the first few seconds after Stop mode is on.
9) Current monitor display is redesigned.
10) New web server with much faster response.
11) All locomotives in a consist are displyaed in the web server, customized and sorted by column.
12) The web interface language is based on the browser preferences.
13) Added support for ECoSDetector RC

Bugfixes:

1) Error in the programming of M4 decoders , when more than 128 M4 locomotives are available.
2) Crash on Disconnect and PC Interface View on Lok / switching Article Manager.
3) Failed to partial shutdown of the booster ( Go button flashes). Internal and external booster behave symmetrically now .
4) Inserting the batteries during operation is detected. In addition, charging time limitation for batteries.
5) Contrast and brightness are no longer stored in the operating session, but will be stored depends on the device .
6) Flickering address feedback on ECoSDetector in some foreign decoders.
7) Shuttle train will not be saved correctly in conjunction with the L.Net Converter.
8) Crash when deleting locomotives on the ECoS in conjunction with PC programs
9) Create and cancel crash with multiple traction
10) Numerous internal bug fixes


Important, please read the following part before continue:

1) The upgrade includes a new rescue system. Once upgraded, you can't roll back to version 3.7.x
2) This is a beta version, run at your own risk and expect the fixes untill the official version.
3) Upgrade to the v3.7.0 first, before head to the v4.0.0
4) It is advised to connect the ECoS with LAN cable (dont use wifi bridge or access point).
5) Backup all the setting and route.

Now, the big cake is finally here, download the firmware and hit the road
Download procedure:
1) Go to ESU official page, www.esu.eu
2) Login your ESU account for the permission to access download page
3) Visit the dedicated page of beta firmware
4) Download the product specific firmware


After the download, the firmware is upgraded in two parts:
1) The first part is upgrade the rescue system. Upload the "ECoS_update_4-0-0_rescue.bci" to the web browser interface.
2) Reload the web browser page when the progress bar reaches the right end.  
3) Upgrade the firmware to v4.0.0, "ECoS_update_4-0-0_rc1.bci"
4) Restore the setting and route if needed.
